pillowbook Elevator Postcard Project: Isabelle's metal book
For this project, we were all given a postcard with the Buffalo grain elevators on the front and told to do with it what we would, and return it to Isabelle Pelissier. Isabelle currently lives in Buffalo where she sculpts with metal (my favorite are her metal roses which you can see in the Buffalo restaurant Nektar), but she'll be moving to Maine next year with her husband, Jonathan Skinner, where she will presumably continue to make things. After we all sent in our postcards, Isabelle made these metal boxes with a reproduction of the postcard painted on front.

elevator Open book
Isabelle's metal box opens like a book, and is bound with bolts and rubber. Inside it is like a box, and it contains loose reproductions of the postcards everyone made. Each edition comes with one of the original postcards. These books initially sold for $50 each.

elevator Poet postcards
When you turn the book upside down and dump out all the postcards, this is what it looks like.

elevator Contributor's book
Kristen Gallagher's Handwritten Press made postcard-sized books for all the contributors. These books contained photocopies of all the postcards and were bound with bolts.
